Our Story

Somatic Studios was created from a deep desire to cultivate an inclusive, nurturing, and safe environment where individuals and wellness/movement practitioners of all backgrounds and abilities feel supported to move, explore, and connect. We believe mindful movement is a powerful pathway to healing, self-discovery, and overall well-being. Through a diverse range of offerings—including Pilates and yoga—led by knowledgeable and compassionate instructors, we provide a holistic approach to fitness that honors the integration of mind, body, and spirit.

Founded on a shared commitment to helping others, Somatic Studios seeks to return the fitness industry to its true foundation: supporting growth, restoration, and empowerment through movement. Our instructors and practitioners approach their work with empathy, presence, and care, offering thoughtful, individualized support to everyone who enters the studio. This level of dedication requires time, energy, and expertise, and we believe it should be honored and fairly compensated. Whether someone is new to movement or returning to a practice, every client is welcomed into a space free from intimidation, judgment, or exclusion. We are committed to fostering a studio culture that honors every body—including those who come to practice and those who hold the space—by creating an environment where people feel valued, supported, and able to grow and thrive.

Our Team

Katy McNarney - she/her/hers

Katy grew up in Beverly Hills, Michigan, and has been dancing for over 15 years. Her love for movement and the human body led her to Wayne State University, where she earned a BFA in Dance and a BSED in Kinesiology in 2021. During her time there, she discovered a deep passion for collaboration, movement as a form of therapy, and Pilates.

Her journey as a movement educator led her to pursue a full STOTT PILATES Certification through Equilibrium Pilates Studio. Inspired by her own experiences with hypermobility, backpain, and hip pain, she sought out additional healing modalities, earning a MELT Method Instructor Certification (developed by Sue Hitzmann) and a Reiki Practitioner Certification through Corewell Health’s Integrative Medicine Department.

Katy’s strong movement background, personal experience with pain and injury, and dedication to consistent physical practices give her a deep well of knowledge to support her clients. She approaches movement with empathy, believing in the powerful connection between emotional and physical well-being. She encourages her clients to see their time with her as not just a workout, but as a space for healing, self-discovery, and care.

Mary Renko - she/her/hers

Mary Renko graduated from Wayne State University in May 2025, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. Mary has studied under and performed in works by various artists, and has also studied dance abroad in Tuscany, Italy, doing in-depth and explorative creative and movement research. Throughout undergrad, Mary was a member of Wayne State’s Pilates Mentorship Program under the mentorship of Hannah Andersen, where she was able to investigate, practice, and explore her Pilates teaching through Balanced Body. Mary is very passionate about movement's strong ability to connect the mind and body and create interpersonal relationships within the studio community. Breath is a large focus in Mary's teaching, along with sparking joy through mindful Pilates flows.

Emerging Pilates Instructor

Mardi Bryan - she/her/hers

Mardi’s passion for movement is rooted in her experience as a dancer, having trained from a young age in ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, tap, and hip hop before dancing professionally. She earned her BFA from Fordham University in partnership with The Ailey School, and, after graduating, she spent several years dancing professionally and training dancers.

Yoga was introduced to her as a form of movement meditation—an opportunity to connect breath and body with presence and awareness, rather than focusing on performance or aesthetics. This perspective deeply shaped her approach to movement and ultimately guided her transition into practicing and eventually teaching yoga.

Mardi’s teaching style emphasizes breath, mindful presence, and embodied awareness. She guides each student to explore how each posture feels in their body, encouraging understanding around alignment and personal experience without striving for a “perfect” form. Her classes invite curiosity and observation, creating space for clarity and self-discovery through intentional movement, thoughtful pacing, and clear, supportive guidance.

Experienced Yoga Instructor

Emiley Pegley - she/her/hers

Emiley graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Science in Dance Professions concentrated in Pre-Dance Movement Therapy, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Her movement background includes: dance since the age of 3, 6 years of Isshinryu karate, a few years of volleyball, Pilates, and 9 years of self-taught cross training with resistance and HIIT methods. As a Take Root Dance Company employee, Emiley is an Arts Educator and recently got certified to teach Dance for Parkinson’s. She is also with Fun Girl Dance Company in Ann Arbor for their 8th season of live and video performances.

Her love for Pilates sparked at Wayne State University, as a student of Hannah Andersen. Pilates and Hannah’s pedagogy showed her a different kind of strength. One that helped her feel stable, confident, and challenged in her body in both subtle and direct ways.

The link between Emiley’s pursuits is her passion for wellness and the essence of movement. Her soul feels called to bridge gaps between spirituality, art, and science. She hopes to cultivate spaces where knowledge, embodiment, strong foundations, and expansion empower others. Emiley plans to bring Pilates into her dance classes with people of all ages, so they may cultivate strength and alignment in their dancing, as well as their daily lives. She also looks forward to making Pilates accessible for EVERYONE, as she believes in the healing power of Pilates.
